Restaurants with personal names
We just went to Quinn on Pine street. (It replaced one of those mexican restaurants that I hate, large plates of basically out of the can food. I worked in one of those types of places in Chicago, the kitchen's prep time was basically opening cans. The hollandaise sauce was powder and water whisked together. I told the cook that that's not Hollandaise, he told me to shut up.)
Quinn and the other personal name restaurant Smith are a good sign that Seattle is growing up. Opened by pros with that are interested in appealing to a wider range of dinners. I was worried after Lark & Licorous opened that the neighborhood was going to get a spat of unaffordable fussy restaurants*. But with the addition of Quinn to the growing list of places that are affordable and really good it makes me feel like Capitol Hill is finally getting back on track, joining other neighborhoods in having good places to go to eat.
Quinn has affordable wine and a short list of well executed dishes. I had the burger Leigh had the Braised Farm Animal of the Day. Which was braised lamb shank. The food had a few hiccups but in general the effort is there and they've been open only a week. In a few months the place will be perfect.
So thank you Quinn, Smith, Cafe Press for picking our little neighborhood.
* Note that we love both of these restaurants. Lark is one of the top restaurants of Seattle, Licorous, is a special place we call the food "SPA food" in a good way.
